trying for joy

A funny, sarcastic Mom in her 30s writes about trying for joy while losing her Mom to Alzheimer's. Patti's writing is real, silly and sad, just like dementia is.

Hi! Thanks for being here. I hope you are taking a break to be alone and connect. Or maybe you are looking things up in a moment of desperation crying on the can. Either way, I'm glad you are here. In the picture above, I decided to paint my first floor on a whim and sent this picture to my husband saying "surprise!".

My favorite cookbook to read in bed! Thanks Smitten Kitchen!    This is the best cookbook if you are in the mood for good reading, funny comments and excellent food. Oh, and beautiful pictures.

I'm Trying For Joy, in the midst of grieving for one parent, a child born too soon and a Mom that I'm losing to Alzheimer's Disease. I've owned my own bakery, been a social worker at a children's hospital and now I'm working in adoption and foster care. The one constant through all of these things has been a continued love of writing. Other things about me: I'm interested in reading cookbooks in bed.

I like how I feel after I run.

I don't like IPAs.

I do like driving my Prius.

And I certainly like decaf almond milk iced coffees.

I don't like dogs.

There.

I said it.

That dog part got you, right? I know you've been waiting for me to fess up to something and there it is. Cue sad faces from all the dog lovers. I'm trying! I really am. But I'm also trying to like olives, so I don't know how long this will take.
